Adelphi is a place of opportunity where students gain the skills, knowledge and exposure to thrive as professionals and active citizens in an interconnected and fast-paced global society. Adelphi prides itself on a distinguished 118-year history.

Currently, nearly 8,000 students are thriving in Adelphi’s classrooms, in its programs, on its sports fields at the main Garden City campus and at centers in Manhattan, Hauppauge, and Poughkeepsie. Adelphi students have gone on to achieve awards and national recognition for their scholarship, service and leadership.

  • Adelphi University will be the leading private university in the region for undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty who value excellence in teaching, learning, research, scholarship, creative activity, and service to one’s community. The University will be known for the competence of its graduates, its strong programs and interdisciplinary orientation, its welcoming of the community onto the campus, and its impact on the broader society through educational, economic, intellectual and cultural initiatives.

  • Adelphi University’s roots reach back to 1863 and the founding of the Adelphi Academy, a private preparatory school in Brooklyn, New York. Over the course of the next 100 years Adelphi grew and changed significantly. In 1929, Adelphi University became the first private, coeducational institution of higher education on Long Island. Since that time, more than 100,000 students have passed through its doors, leaving their mark on the University and the world beyond.
